The Biggest Mistake First-Time Disney Visitors Make (and How to Avoid It!)

Weekly Newsletter

Hey Reader!

Okay, we need to talk about something I see all the time—and honestly, it breaks my little Disney-loving heart.

The biggest mistake first-time Disney visitors make?

Not doing enough research.
(Or… any research at all. 🫣)

And listen, I get it. Planning a Disney trip is can be a lot, and life is busy, and suddenly you blink and it’s time to pack your Mickey ears. But,not knowing a few key details can seriously change the vibe of your vacation.

Let me give you a real-life example…

You book your trip, the excitement is high, you’ve picked out your outfits, and then you show up at Magic Kingdom for your big “we’re finally here!!!” night… only to learn it’s a Halloween or Christmas party night. (This actually happened to me back in 2008, but it was a Pirate and Princess Party, and we couldn't get any food because the park was "closed" for the party. Do not recommend!)

Which means the park closes early.
As in, 6pm early.

And suddenly your magical evening on Main Street?
Your castle photos at sunset?
Your long, leisurely first ride on Peter Pan’s Flight?

Gone.
Because you didn’t know to check the park hours. 😭

I’ve talked to SO many families who didn’t even realize Disney closes Magic Kingdom early for parties from August all the way through December. (Yes… August. Spooky season starts early in Walt Disney World, my friend!)

And here’s the thing: Disney isn’t trying to be sneaky—they do post the hours. But if you don’t know to look for them? It’s really easy to miss.

So how do you avoid this?

Three super simple steps:

1. Always check the park hours before you pick your park days.
Look at which days Magic Kingdom closes at 6pm for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party or Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party.

2. Avoid party days for your “Magic Kingdom day” if you want a full, open-to-close experience.

3. OR plan to go on a party day if you want a quieter, lower-wait-times morning.
Party days are amazing for rope drop!

4. And if you really want to do it the stress-free way? Let me plan it for you.
(I know, I know, but seriously—I do this every single week and I will absolutely make sure you don’t lose half a park day by accident.)

So, tell me:

Have you ever accidentally gone to Magic Kingdom on a party night?
Or made a Disney planning oops you want to share so we can all feel less alone? 😂
Hit reply! I love hearing from you!
